South Korea publishes draft of AI law's decree for public comments
( November 12, 2025, 03:00 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: South Korea on Wednesday issued a pre-announcement of legislation on the enforcement decree for the Basic Law on Artificial Intelligence to receive public comments for 40 days and finalize it before the law goes into force in late January 2026. The decree aims to specify and clarify all practical matters delegated by the law so that the country can pursue the dual objectives of promoting the domestic AI industry and establishing a framework for safety and trust, the Ministry of Science and ICT said. In particular, the decree provides details to clarify standards for support projects to foster the AI industry; provisions on the designation and operation of supporting institutions for the implementation of national AI policy; specification and clarification of regulatory systems to ensure AI safety and trust; and a plan to suspend for one year or longer imposition of a fine on AI businesses in violation of regulations. Along with the decree, the ministry said it will continue to receive public comments on two notices and five guidelines until the main law takes effect on Jan. 22, 2026.The statement, in Korean, is attached....
