OpenAI sets out global ‘teen safety blueprint’ for AI providers, policy makers

( November 7, 2025, 16:01 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: ChatGPT developer OpenAI has set out a position on safety for teenage users of its AI products, calling on all AI companies to adopt the same approach and voicing an ambition for it to be seen as a "practical starting point for policy makers who are working to set standards for teen use of AI." The measures include user age prediction and defaulting to a version of the service for under-18s if there is doubt on age; content moderation; parental controls; preventing recommendations that adults initiate conversations with teens and ensuring responses don’t make services become substitutes for therapies or best friends to teens.
