Perplexity urges dismissal of Britannica, Webster's 'output' infringement claim

"Because Plaintiffs’ output claims are based on Perplexity users’ (likely Plaintiffs’) atypical usage in the form of explicit requests for, and the answer engine’s automatic creation of, 'verbatim' copies of Plaintiffs’ works, Plaintiffs have not stated a direct infringement claim against Perplexity itself," the company wrote. See attached file....
