The US, China and 19 other members instead pledged to strengthen supply chain resilience, support small businesses and explore the long-dormant idea of an Asia-Pacific free trade area. By endorsing new initiatives on artificial intelligence and demographic challenges, the member economies were also able to reframe APEC’s agenda around technology and people — not just goods and borders.The APEC summit in South Korea closed on Saturday without huge triumphs but with a consensus to keep pursuing consensus, a modest outcome that nonetheless marked an achievement in maintaining cohesion among its 21 member economies amid tariff escalations, technology rivalries and eroding trust....
