AI chatbots targeted by new Australian industry online-safety codes

( September 9, 2025, 00:57 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Artificial Intelligence-driven companion chatbots will be targeted by new industry-drafted codes to protect children from harmful content, the Australian online safety regulator said. In a statement Tuesday, the Australian eSafety Commissioner said that many of these AI chatbots are capable of engaging in “sexually explicit conversations with minors” and have been alleged to also encourage self-harm.
