South Korea's 2026 budget sets 206 percent rise in funding for AI projects

It was included in the first full-year budget bill since President Lee Jae Myung took office in mid-2025, which was approved by the cabinet council today for submission to parliament for deliberation. The total annual budget is set 8.1 percent higher than in 2025, when budget spending growth stood at 2.5 percent. Budget spending on projects directly related to artificial intelligence sectors is expected to increase by 206 percent, according to details released by the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
