Malaysia weighs AI legislation, eyes stronger global standing

( July 21, 2025, 08:58 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Malaysia is considering a proposal to draft dedicated legislation on artificial intelligence, Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo said today, as the government seeks to balance effective governance with its ambition to become a regional AI leader. Speaking during a question-and-answer session in Parliament, Gobind said the country’s National Artificial Intelligence Organization, or NAIO, is currently formulating the National AI Action Plan 2026–2030 to enhance Malaysia’s position as a regional AI hub. The action plan sets benchmarks for improving Malaysia’s performance in global AI rankings.
