Meta funds AI engineer program to help UK government build public-service tools

( July 11, 2025, 09:01 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Meta Platforms is funding a $1 million program to attract AI engineers into the UK government to use open-source AI models such as its own Llama 3.5 to build AI tools for public services, which could include high-security use cases such as "language translation in national security contexts." Meta is giving the money to the Alan Turing Institute, the national AI research center. Engineers participating in the Open-Source AI Fellowship will “help show just how valuable open-source AI can be to governments and society more broadly," said Meta’s chief global affairs officer, Joel Kaplan.Statement follows....
