UK starts trial app for government services, to gain AI chat, digital ID functions

( July 1, 2025, 00:02 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Government services will now be available via a smartphone app in an initial stage of the ongoing personalization of access. The first version of the GOV.UK App, released in beta today, essentially allows a customizable homepage of the government web portal, visited 88 million times a month. The government’s generative AI chatbot will be added to the app later in the year and the government’s digital wallet will also be released offering veteran ID and then a digital driving license, before that is then too merged into the increasingly integrated app. The app will give people notifications around significant life events and is parallel to the National Health Service app which saw mass uptake during Covid and is also receiving many new features.Statement follows:...
