AI chatbots should be probed, US digital rights organizations say

( June 13, 2025, 19:39 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: A broad coalition of consumer protection, digital rights, labor, disability and democracy advocacy organizations are calling on state and federal regulators to investigate artificial intelligence companies promoting deceptive chatbots that pose as mental health professionals. They've submitted complaints to state attorneys general and mental health licensing boards in all 50 states and the District of Columbia, and to the US Federal Trade Commission. “Enforcement agencies at all levels must make it clear that companies facilitating and promoting illegal behavior need to be held accountable," CFA Director of AI and Privacy Ben Winters said.
