EU executive pushes on with AI models code of practice despite possible law delay

By Luca Bertuzzi ( June 10, 2025, 16:04 GMT | Insight) -- The EU's executive arm is pressing ahead with finalizing a code of practice for general-purpose AI model developers, intended as a key compliance tool for the likes of OpenAI, Anthropic and Microsoft, for application this August, even though discussions on pausing the AI Act that underpins it are now formally on the table. The code, general-purpose AI guidelines, the template to disclose training datasets and related guidelines are expected by the first week of July. Leading AI companies are being engaged to secure their support for the code, though they are still in the dark on the critical copyright-related parts.General-purpose AI model developers should still get a final draft of the EU code of practice from the European Commission early next month, despite a potential “stop the clock” on the AI Act, MLex has learned. Bilateral discussions are ongoing this week and the draft is currently expected in the first week of July....
