South Korea sees AI adoption surge, paid subscriptions jump eight-fold

( May 29, 2025, 03:28 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: A new survey by South Korea's communications regulator shows AI adoption has surged dramatically, with 1 in 4 citizens now using generative AI services such as ChatGPT — doubling from 12.3 percent in 2023 — while paid subscriptions jumped nearly eight-fold to 7 percent. According to the Korea Communications Commission, users primarily cite information search efficiency and work support as key benefits, but also express concerns about algorithm recommendation services particularly regarding exposure to illegal information on portals and personal data leaks on YouTube. The study found that 69.8 percent of respondents demand greater transparency in how recommendation algorithms select content.
