Noyb seeks ‘cease and desist’ order against Meta’s AI training in Europe

( May 14, 2025, 07:09 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Austrian advocacy group Noyb is seeking a "cease and desist" order against Meta Platforms’ plan to make use of users’ public personal data for AI training in Europe. Noyb has sent a letter to the Irish data protection authority, saying that Meta's move would be in breach of the EU's GDPR because Meta is using the wrong legal basis and should ask users for their consent. Various other groups in the EU are reviewing options for litigation, Noyb said in its statement today. A German consumer group has already filed a lawsuit for a preliminary injunction.
