AI policy overhaul urgently needed, South Korea NGO says ahead of election

( April 30, 2025, 08:21 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: A South Korean non-profit organization comprising science and technology experts issued policy proposals for adoption by the next government to help the country remain competitive in the global race for supremacy in artificial intelligence. The Citizens’ Coalition for Scientific Society presented proposals in five categories: infrastructure, talent, ecosystem, governance and global. After determining that policy measures in recent years were either insufficient or inefficient, the CCSS proposed an overhaul of AI policies. It recommended sharply increasing investment plans to build national computing capabilities, establishing national institutes to educate AI experts and strengthening government agencies overseeing AI policies. The proposals were issued about a month before South Korea’s new government is set to be inaugurated following the June 3 election.The statement, in Korean, is attached....
