France moves to shape EU’s AI sustainability standards

By Luca Bertuzzi ( April 24, 2025, 11:31 GMT | Insight) -- France’s national standardization body has proposed starting work on guidelines and metrics designed to anticipate technical standards addressing the environmental impact of artificial intelligence under the EU AI Act later this year. The proposal consists of developing guidelines and metrics based on best practices in lifecycle assessment, and focuses on energy use, emissions and resource consumption, as well as defining reporting responsibilities for AI developers and users throughout the system’s lifecycle.
