AI evolution leads to surge in deepfake sex-crime video cases in South Korea

( April 23, 2025, 03:52 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: South Korea’s telecommunications media content regulator said takedown requests for suspected deepfake sex-crime videos filed with it during the first quarter surged 167 percent from a year earlier, alongside the rapid advancement of AI and other digital technologies. The Korea Communications Standards Commission said it received 9,443 requests to remove such videos from various telecommunication network services during the January-March period, up from 3,541 cases in the same period of 2024.
