US DOJ files amended complaint targeting six landlords for algorithmic rent-fixing

( January 7, 2025, 19:01 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The US Department of Justice filed an amended complaint in an algorithmic rental price-fixing lawsuit involving RealPage that names six property landlords as defendants. The amended lawsuit, filed in the Middle District of North Carolina, alleges that Greystar Real Estate Partners, Blackstone’s LivCor, Camden Property Trust, Cushman & Wakefield and Pinnacle Property Management Services, Willow Bridge Property Company, and Cortland Management participated in an unlawful scheme to decrease competition among landlords in apartment pricing, harming millions of American renters. Cortland has agreed to cooperate with the DOJ's antitrust division and enter into a settlement to end the use of common rental pricing algorithms and competitively sensitive data to set rents, the DOJ said. The lawsuit was joined by the attorneys general of Illinois and Massachusetts, bringing the total state co-plaintiffs to 10, the statement said....
