( October 29, 2026, 05:13 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Coupang, Gmarket, SK Broadband and other major South Korean companies have been urged to strengthen safeguards against unauthorized access to customer information after a regulatory inspection uncovered weaknesses in some call-center privacy practices. The Personal Information Protection Commission said Thursday it reviewed nine companies, including five service providers and four call-center operators, following a March incident in which a customer service representative improperly accessed personal information and used it in a retaliatory crime. The review found that some systems allowed representatives to retrieve detailed customer information using only a name or phone number, while others displayed personal details without masking them. The regulator recommended tighter access controls, restrictions on arbitrary searches, masking of customer information and monitoring of unusual access patterns, and said it would check whether companies implemented the recommended improvements.Statement is attached (in Korean)....
