Major AI companies questioned about incidents by US House Democrats

( October 28, 2026, 16:50 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: US House Democratic committee leaders wrote to five of the nation’s leading frontier artificial intelligence companies requesting information and ongoing reporting to Congress about AI model misalignment and safety incidents within 48 hours of incident detection. They wrote to Anthropic, Google, Meta Platforms, OpenAI, and SpaceXSI, saying that voluntary disclosures are not enough for Congress to address gaps in AI governance. “In the absence of any mandatory reporting requirements or common guidelines regarding what incidents should be reported, to whom, in what detail, and at what intervals, companies such as yours have been left to develop your own de facto standards on a voluntary basis,” they wrote. “And the Trump Administration has been content to rely on voluntary disclosures and self-regulation by the AI industry.”Statement follows in full.
