Star Entertainment fined $182m for Australian money-laundering compliance failures
( October 28, 2026, 05:47 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The Star Entertainment’s Sydney and Queensland casino operators have been fined a combined A$260 million (US$182.82 million) for systemic failures to comply with Australia’s anti-money laundering and counterterrorism financing laws. In a judgment handed down on Wednesday, Federal Court judge Cameron Moore ordered Star Sydney to pay A$195 million and Star Queensland A$65 million. He found that the operators provided services without a compliant anti-money laundering program and failed to adequately monitor customers between November 2016 and November 2022. The court rejected Australia's financial-crime watchdog Austrac’s proposed A$400 million penalty as too high and Star’s proposed A$100 million ceiling as too low. The fines are payable in four equal installments through May 2028.Order and judgment are attached....
