China warns of countermeasures over US restrictions on research institutions

( October 23, 2026, 07:31 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: China has urged the US to stop imposing discriminatory restrictions on Chinese research institutions and warned that it will take necessary measures to protect their legitimate rights and interests, the Ministry of Commerce said in a statement on Friday. The ministry was responding to a Monday announcement by the US Department of Defense that some American universities had severed research ties with entities on its Section 1286 list, which includes numerous Chinese research institutions. The ministry accused the US of politicizing scientific cooperation under the pretext of national security and pressuring American research institutions to choose sides. Such restrictions would undermine scientific progress and innovation in the US and harm both countries, the ministry said.Statement follows (in Chinese)....
