KFTC's 'disparate treatment' of US companies merits trade probe, consultations, CCIA says

( October 20, 2026, 03:39 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The US Trade Representative should open an investigation into the Korea Fair Trade Commission's disproportionate penalties against US companies pursuant to Section 301 of the Trade Act, the Computer & Communications Industry Association said in a report. "Korea’s competition authority fines US companies several times more per dollar of Korean business than Korean companies and orders of magnitude more than Chinese companies," the report said. The "disparate treatment" documented in the report also "provides a prima facie case of non-compliance" with national treatment and most favored nation rules under the US-Korea Free Trade Agreement, CCIA said.See attached document and statement....
