China warns EU against using trade pressure to secure concessions

( October 19, 2026, 04:42 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The EU should not expect to gain concessions from China through pressure, China's Ministry of Commerce said in a statement on Friday, responding to reports that EU leaders had proposed a two-track approach combining intensive trade talks with tougher restrictions on Chinese industries, potentially including the bloc's anti-coercion instrument. The ministry rejected suggestions that EU pressure had secured an agreement on hybrid vehicles, saying the understanding was mutually beneficial, protected Chinese companies' interests and addressed European concerns while preventing an escalation of trade tensions. China warned against underestimating Beijing's determination and ability to protect its interests.Statement follows (in Chinese)....
