Indonesia eyes mandatory labeling of AI-generated content to combat deepfake fraud

( October 19, 2026, 03:27 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Indonesia's Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs is considering a ministerial regulation requiring artificial-intelligence developers to label AI-generated content and provide mechanisms to verify its authenticity, Deputy Minister Nezar Patria said on Saturday. The proposed rules would address growing risks of deepfake fraud and information manipulation by introducing content provenance measures, including metadata that helps distinguish synthetic videos, images and audio from authentic material. Nezar said the ministry is studying approaches being developed by global technology companies to trace the origins of digital content. The government is also preparing a national AI roadmap for 2026-2029, covering AI development and governance, with input from more than 400 government bodies, industry participants and other stakeholders.Statement follows (in Indonesian)....
