Online platforms to face new child safety duties in Mexico

( October 14, 2026, 15:43 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Online platforms will have to prevent children from accessing violent and sexually explicit content in Mexico under new legislation announced by the government. Set for publication this week, the decree will include measures such as immediate removal of accounts or content promoting violence, age classifications, parental controls and protective privacy and security settings by default, the government said in a statement. Platforms must also preserve evidence and provide a round-the-clock contact for investigators, it added. Mexican president Claudia Sheinbaum’s office said the decree would take effect immediately after publication and that a working group would develop further regulatory implementation.Statement follows (in Spanish)....
