Meta's Teen Accounts fail to ease Indonesia's child-safety concerns
By Roffie Kurniawan ( October 8, 2026, 07:00 GMT | Insight) -- Meta Platforms' Instagram and Facebook remain classified as high-risk platforms under Indonesia's online child-protection rules despite introducing Teen Account safety features and blocking 184,000 accounts belonging to children under 16 in the past six months, Communications and Digital Affairs Minister Meutya Hafid said Wednesday. The government says the platforms must do more to address risks including contact with strangers and addictive content, and plans to introduce clearer criteria for assessing whether platforms qualify for a lower-risk classification.
