AI bill of human rights could fill global governance gaps, UK paper proposes

( October 5, 2026, 14:36 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: An international AI bill of human rights could address some of the current governance gaps around the technology, Oxford University researcher Yuval Shany has proposed. Shany's policy paper, which outlines a soft law instrument, was presented at a summit on Monday. It proposes seven rights covering AI access, privacy, protection from algorithmic bias, transparency and explainability, protection from manipulation, human decisions and interaction, and accountability for harms. The paper suggests that, while global tensions make a binding treaty unlikely, nonbinding principles could guide interpretation of existing laws and face less resistance.Paper attached....
