South Korea to discipline public officials over cybersecurity failures

The government said it plans to establish serious data breaches as incidents for which senior officials can be held accountable. It will also increase the number of public agencies subject to the cybersecurity assessment led by the National Intelligence Service to about 2,000 central and local government bodies, from 153 organizations currently. The government also plans to provide incentives to attract and retain officials in cybersecurity positions, including additional credit in performance evaluations, while increasing cybersecurity staffing at central and local government agencies.
