Meta wins dismissal of privacy claims around Calif. motor vehicle records
( September 30, 2026, 23:39 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: A federal judge in California dismissed privacy litigation against Meta Platforms over its acquisition of personal data from a state Department of Motor Vehicles website, saying the plaintiffs lack standing because DMV records are public records and their disclosure didn't constitute an injury to the plaintiffs. While US District Judge Susan Illston said the "Court is troubled about the use of an invisible, undisclosed tracking technology on a government website," the plaintiffs lack standing. "The problem with plaintiffs’ analogy of a Meta employee eavesdropping at the DMV counter is that the Pixel did not transmit to Meta any sensitive or substantive information about plaintiffs’ transactions on the DMV website," Illston said.See attached document....
