South Korea unveils patent strategy for national R&D, starting with physical AI
( September 30, 2026, 03:01 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: South Korea approved an interagency policy strategy to improve the commercialization of research and development outcomes at a regular ministerial meeting on science and technology held Wednesday. The strategy is intended to promote the strategic use of patents and other intellectual property throughout the process, from planning and conducting national R&D projects to securing critical patents and standard-essential patents abroad and commercializing research outcomes, according to the Ministry of Science and ICT. Under the strategy, the government plans to develop patent roadmaps for national strategic technologies, starting with the physical artificial intelligence sector. It will also turn patent information into AI training data with a goal of introducing more efficient R&D methods using agentic AI systems developed with the data.The statement is attached (in Korean)....
