China tightens security rules for meteorological data, outbound transfers
( September 29, 2026, 08:51 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: China’s Meteorological Administration unveiled rules Tuesday requiring data-security safeguards throughout the supply, circulation and use of meteorological data. The Measures for the Management of Meteorological Data stipulate that meteorological-data handlers must use data bearing identification markers, keep records throughout the processing lifecycle and establish procedures for responding to data-security incidents. Transfers of important meteorological data abroad are subject to data-export security assessments and national security reviews under relevant rules. Taking effect Nov. 1, the measures also stipulate that the national meteorological authority must establish a catalog of important data and a security-risk assessment mechanism.
