China regulator explains reasoning on Tongwei-Lihao deal clearance
( September 24, 2026, 08:44 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: China’s State Administration for Market Regulation on Thursday explained its competition assessment of polysilicon giant Tongwei’s planned acquisition of Qinghai Lihao Clean Energy, saying it had examined the photovoltaic supply chain and sought views from an industry association and major companies upstream and downstream. Although the companies have a relatively high combined share of the global and Chinese markets for solar-grade polysilicon, the regulator said ample capacity and the presence of numerous competitors would continue to constrain the combined company effectively. It added that the deal therefore wouldn’t exclude or restrict competition, and its unconditional clearance reflected support for market-driven mergers that optimize resources and reduce low-level, homogeneous harmful competition.Statement follows (in Chinese)....
