Safeguards in American Water settlement 'pathetic,' Chester Water Authority says
( September 22, 2026, 15:02 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Consumer protection provisions offered by American Water Works and Essential Utilities to the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission in the companies' non-unanimous settlement are unlikely to be effective or meaningful, the Chester Water Authority told administrative law judges for the state's utility commission. "These protections are pathetic," the authority wrote. "They will prove to be largely inconsequential compared with the size and permanence of the transaction they are supposed to justify and the massive and irreversible rate hikes that ratepayers will be burdened with in the coming years that extend in perpetuity."See attached document....
