Google sees UK regulator set out toughened proposals over search user choice

( September 23, 2026, 11:49 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Google is line for tougher requirements to allow Android and Chrome customers in the UK greater choice and more control over the search services they use, after the competition regulator set out strengthened proposals on Wednesday. Last year, the Competition and Markets Authority designated Google as having "strategic market status" in general search and search advertising services, allowing it to set conduct requirements. It consulted on an initial package of requirements and has now updated these. The new plans include allowing people to choose AI assistants as their search service. The CMA is consulting on its updated proposals until Oct. 9.Statement follows....
