Thailand develops minimum-pay formula for platform riders
( September 18, 2026, 06:44 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Thailand's Digital Economy and Society Ministry and the Electronic Transactions Development Agency announced on Thursday they are developing a central formula to calculate minimum compensation for workers providing on-demand passenger and delivery services through digital platforms, based on actual working costs. The proposed formula would establish a minimum cost floor rather than require all platforms to pay the same rate, with the parties agreeing in principle that it should account for working time, vehicle costs based on distance and type and additional compensation for jobs with specific burdens. The ETDA will collect further data from government agencies, platforms and rider groups to refine the formula before using it to support future legislation and measures protecting platform workers. A proposal for a minimum rate of 10 baht per kilometer remains under study.Full announcement follows (in Thai)....
