Australia consults on AI infrastructure, training

In a statement late on Thursday, the recently established Office of AI within the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet said that the government is seeking feedback on proposed data-center requirements covering energy and renewable use, water sustainability, community and infrastructure impacts, workforce training and the thresholds for applying those obligations. The statement said AI has the potential to transform the economy and Australia is well placed to “seize this opportunity.” The announcement comes as major AI and tech companies have cautioned that the pace of AI development needs to slow.
