EU carbon-market support for sustainable aviation fuels quadruples

( September 15, 2026, 15:00 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: EU airlines will receive about €430 million in carbon allowances for using sustainable aviation fuels, or SAF, in 2025. That's more than four times the support provided last year. Under the EU Emissions Trading System, airlines must surrender allowances to cover their CO2 emissions. Around 5.2 million allowances will be distributed among 130 operators for free to help cover the price gap between sustainable fuels and fossil kerosene.Press release follows.
