EU, China target first concrete trade outcomes at October talks
By Cynthia Kroet ( September 17, 2026, 14:31 GMT | Insight) -- The EU and China are aiming for concrete progress on trade imbalances, market access for European companies and rare-earth export controls when their trade chiefs meet in Beijing on Oct. 8-9, the European Commission said Thursday following a video call between senior EU and Chinese officials. The call comes ahead of a meeting between EU trade chief Maroš Šefčovič with a group of European CEOs on Friday, which is expected to focus on the possible diversification tool that the commission is preparing.The EU and China are seeking their first concrete outcomes from an intensified trade dialogue when EU Trade Commissioner Maroš Šefčovič travels to Beijing on Oct. 8 and 9, as Brussels presses China to address rising concerns over exports to Europe, market access and rare-earth controls....
