UK urged to develop safety framework for AI in the power grid

( September 14, 2026, 11:17 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The UK government should work with domestic energy regulator Ofgem and the AI Security Institute to develop a safety framework and processes to enable autonomous AI in the electricity grid by 2030, an independent government-commissioned review has said. The review, led by the chief executive of the Centre for Net Zero, Lucy Yu, also recommends targets of 2035 for grid operations and 2036 for planning, shifting away from fixed rules towards an approach that considers the probability and impact of failures.Statement follows.
