EU Commission seeks governments' approval to sign India trade deal

( September 11, 2026, 10:39 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The European Commission has asked EU governments to authorize the signature and conclusion of the EU-India free-trade agreement, launching the bloc’s internal approval process, it said in a statement on Friday. The agreement, provisionally signed in January, would cut or eliminate tariffs on 96 percent of EU goods exports to India, while addressing non-tariff barriers and setting more predictable trade and investment rules. It now requires approval by national governments as well as the European Parliament’s consent before entering into force; India is conducting its own ratification process.The statement follows....
