Japan ransomware cases, internet-enabled fraud losses hit records
( September 10, 2026, 07:24 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Japan's National Police Agency announced today that ransomware cases reached a record 123 in the first half of 2026, while losses from internet-enabled fraud rose 45 percent year on year to 176 billion yen ($1.1 billion). The agency also highlighted overseas-origin phishing as a serious threat, with China accounting for 45 percent of identified source servers for phishing emails, followed by Japan at 14 percent and Brazil at 10 percent.
