J&P Turner-Turners & Growers Fresh deal continues to raise concerns in New Zealand

( September 10, 2026, 07:11 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The proposed acquisition of Turners & Growers Fresh by J&P Turner or any of its interconnected body corporate would remove the existing competitive constraint that the parties impose on one another, New Zealand’s competition regulator said. In a statement of issues published on Thursday, New Zealand’s Commerce Commission said that the parties appear to compete closely to acquire and supply fresh produce in at least some categories and locations and for certain growers and/or wholesale customers. The regulator said it is not currently satisfied that the deal would not substantially lessen competition due to unilateral effects in relevant markets. In a statement on Thursday, the regulator said that it is seeking views on the deal until Sept. 23. and is likely to announce its decision on Nov. 5.Statement follows.
