UK proposed law to ban superintelligent AI published by campaign group
( September 7, 2026, 11:47 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: A UK bill that would prohibit the development of superintelligent AI is due to be proposed by lawmaker Alex Sobel from the governing Labour party on Tuesday, said campaign group ControlAI, which drafted the proposed legislation. So-called private member's bills that are not backed by the government usually have little chance of actually becoming law but are often proposed to raise awareness on a policy issue. The UK Artificial Superintelligence Security Bill would also monitor and restrict the precursors to superintelligent AI, and lead negotiations on an international agreement around AI regulation.
