Germany’s €35bn electricity ‘capacity mechanism’ wins EU approval

The European Commission said the “capacity mechanism” would be available from 2031 and was designed to ensure that production could consistently meet demand. Companies benefiting from the program will be required to operate in a “climate-neutral way” by 2045 at the latest, and all gas-fired power plants bidding for contracts must be ready to switch to hydrogen, the regulator said.Statement follows....
