US Customs announces proposal for ‘greater visibility’ into supply chains

( September 1, 2026, 14:12 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: US Customs and Border Protection is seeking comments from the public and private industry on how to enhance its visibility into supply chains to better detect “illicit importations” and transshipment. CBP proposed mandating foreign export documentation in the import process, updating national security considerations, and replacing or “redefining” the manufacturer identification code and modifying Global Business Identifiers, both of which are used in documentation. CBP also asks for novel technological solutions.See attached....
