Opera fails to sway EU court over Microsoft Edge not being named a gatekeeper

By Jean Comte ( September 2, 2026, 11:57 GMT | Insight) -- Microsoft's Edge web browser was rightly not brought under the scope of the EU's digital gatekeeper law, judges ruled on Wednesday, rejecting arguments by rival browser Opera. The EU's lower-tier General Court backed findings by the European Commission that included Edge having low usage and Microsoft being unable to exploit its ecosystem to boost its use. Judges did confirm Opera's right to bring its case, however. The ruling can be appealed at the EU Court of Justice.EU judges have rejected web browser Opera's arguments that Microsoft's Edge browser should have been subject to regulation under the EU's dedicated digital "gatekeeper" law....
