China to expand data-labeling pilots to 32 more cities to support AI development

( August 31, 2026, 07:37 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: China will expand pilot programs for data labeling to 32 more cities and open more high-value data to support artificial intelligence development and digital transformation, the National Data Administration said Saturday during the China International Big Data Industry Expo 2026 in Guiyang. The new pilots will bring the total number of participating cities to 39 and cover sectors including manufacturing, healthcare, transportation and embodied AI. Fourteen centrally administered and state-owned companies will also make more than 6 billion data records available, while authorities plan measures to develop data-related skills and explore new commercial models for token-based services. China’s data industry reached 6.78 trillion yuan ($1 trillion) in 2025, up 15.7 percent from a year earlier, with 482,000 data companies operating nationwide, according to the China Data Industry Development Report 2026 released at the Expo.Statement follows (in Chinese)....
