HD Hyundai Group affiliates fined in South Korea over 2024 privacy breach

The Personal Information Protection Commission said Thursday that it imposed a 73.5 million won monetary penalty on HD Construction Equipment and a 4.8 million on administrative fine on HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering for failing to implement appropriate security measures and access controls. The PIPC found that a hacker exploited vulnerabilities in a mobile-device management server operated by HD Korea Shipbuilding to gain access to an internal system at HD Construction Equipment, exposing the names and identification numbers of its employees, as well as personal information of workers at partner companies.
