Japan's PPC outlines plans for implementing amended privacy law
( August 26, 2026, 09:39 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Japan’s data protection regulator on Wednesday outlined plans for implementation rules under the amended Personal Information Protection Act, which is due to take effect by July 2028. The Personal Information Protection Commission said a Cabinet Order would set rules for calculating administrative fines, while commission regulations would specify conditions for exemptions from consent requirements for statistical uses, including AI training, as well as disclosure obligations for data providers and recipients involved in such processing. The PPC plans to consult groups representing individuals and businesses before releasing a draft package for public comment in January or February.The statement is attached (in Japanese)....
