( August 20, 2026, 14:42 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Canada’s Competition Bureau released its submission to Natural Resources Canada on a plan entitled “Powering Canada Strong: A National Strategy for an Electrified Canadian Economy.” The bureau made four recommendations to policymakers: remove regulator barriers to non-utility providers; factor competition into planning and procurement; enhance data portability and interoperability in the sector; and promote consumer choice through flexible pricing options. “The strategy’s emphasis on grid modernization and digitalization, as well as its support for demand-side measures, has the potential to increase consumer participation, enable dynamic pricing and new services, and support third-party energy management providers. However, these benefits depend on implementation choices that enable competition to thrive. They must ensure that non-utility providers can participate on fair and non-discriminatory terms, that consumers can share their energy data, and that the data is accessible to various market participants,” the bureau said.See attached file. ...
